Description
Large stellar dendrite snowflake with glossy, 3D surface, good hexagonal symmetry and complex structure.
Stellar and fernlike dendrites are common, big snow crystals with traditional shape and structure. Most snowflakes of this type are large enough to be seen in all details with naked eye, especially if you will look at them on contrast background. Usually, snowflakes of this type have small center, and long, complex, massive arms with lots of side branches and thin, transparent icy "petals" and "leaves". These crystals are fragile, and often broke in air, when they collide with their neighbors.
Snowflake was captured on glass with multi-color lighting from angle: this scheme creates smooth color gradient on background and colorful facets of the crystal, making it look glossy and transparent, revealing inner structure and 3D details on surface. Macro setup: Canon Powershot A650is and extra lens Helios 44, mounted reversely in front of built-in camera optics.
My collection contains hundreds macro photos of real snowflakes, and constantly grows.
