Description
Triangular plates is one of my favorite snowflake types. Though most of them are quite small, like this snow crystal (around 1 millimeter or slightly larger), they attract my attention any time i see them: these triangles are easily noticeable, thanks to their unusual shape, and visually differs from most of other snowflakes, even with naked eye.
In fact, these "triangular" crystals are hexagons, with three long and three short sides, but they looks like triangle to our eyes. This snow crystal have slightly irregular shape, resembling a trapezium, and contains nice pattern of straight lines and "arrows", pointing outwards, near of corners.
I used large sheet of glass with LED back light, external lens Helios 44 as additional magnifier, and camera Canon Powershot A650is, powered by CHDK firmware. 8 serial RAW photos was averaged to boost signal-to-noise ratio of this picture.
You can find this crystal in alternate colors (on pinky / grey gradient background) in galleries "All snowflakes" and "Bright snowflakes".
Snowflake photos are available as stretched canvas prints, acrylic, metal, wood and framed prints, posters, greeting cards, Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phone cases, throw pillows, duvet covers, shower curtains, tote bags, t-shirts, beach towels, portable battery chargers, carry-all pouches and coffee mugs. My collection includes over 100 macro photos of real snow crystals and constantly grows. Just click my name (above left) and see all snowflake images.
